WebbIn Egypt, the ‘Tempest Stele of Ahmose I,’ describes apocalyptic rainstorms, which devastated much of Egypt, and these have been attributed to short-term climatic changes caused by the Thera eruption. Some have sought to link the eruption at Santorini (c 1600 BCE) to the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, as told in the Bible. WebbAttempts to use proxy evidence to date the eruption failed. The ash found in two Greenland ice cores from the 17th century BC turned out not to belong to Thera. But the atmospheric dustviel suggested by the southwest American tree rings in the early 1620's BC still might reflect Thera. So might ice core evidence from Kilamonjaro around 1600 BC.
